LUCKNOW, May 26 -- Lucknow police on Sunday arrested a man and his wife for allegedly murdering a young man who was allegedly in an illicit relationship with the woman. The murder took place in Tapovan Nagar under Sarojini Nagar police station limits on May 20. The victim, Arpit Yadav, was found unconscious at the residence of Rajkumar alias Chhotu Maurya and his wife Suman Maurya on May 20. He was rushed to Lok Bandhu Hospital, where he was declared dead. Doctors had raised suspicion of foul play. "Investigation revealed that Arpit was allegedly in a secret relationship with Suman for the past two years. When her husband recently found out, the couple conspired to eliminate him to avoid social embarrassment. Since Arpit was their neighbour, they invited him over, laced his water with sleeping pills, and once he fell unconscious, smothered him with a pillow," said additional DCP Amit Kumawat during a press briefing. In a swift operation, Sarojini Nagar police arrested the accused couple near Nadarganj Tiraha on May 25 and recovered the pillow used in the murder. Police confirmed it was a premeditated crime, with the couple first drugging and then suffocating the victim. The case has been registered under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
