Meerut, Nov. 7 -- A couple was killed and their teenage granddaughter critically injured when a speeding tractor-trolley crashed into their house in Sunara Buzurg village of Shahjahanpur district late on Wednesday night, police said. The accident occurred around 11 p.m. on the Puwayan-Nigohi state highway. Police said the tractor-trolley, travelling from Puwayan, veered off the road and rammed into a tin shed built outside the home of farmer Ramshankar (48). At the time, Ramshankar, his wife Tara Devi (46), and their 13-year-old granddaughter Vandana were asleep under the shed. The impact caused the structure to collapse, burying all three underneath. Neighbours rushed to the spot after hearing the crash and helped pull them out. The victims were taken to a community health centre, where doctors declared Ramshankar and Tara Devi dead. Vandana, who sustained serious injuries, was referred to the Government Medical College for further treatment. As news of the deaths spread, angry villagers gathered on the highway, blocked traffic and demanded the arrest of the tractor owner and driver. Some attempted to set the tractor on fire by pouring diesel on it. The driver fled immediately after the crash, abandoning the tractor-trolley. Before fleeing, the driver reportedly tried to reverse the vehicle but ended up hitting a parked Bolero. Police teams led by deputy superintendent of police Praveen Malik reached the spot and tried to pacify the crowd. Additional personnel from Sindhauli, Nigohi, Puwayan, Banda, and Khutar police stations were deployed to control the situation. The blockade continued past midnight, and vehicle movement towards Puwayan and Nigohi was temporarily halted for safety. The tractor-trolley has been seized and a case registered. The bodies of Ramshankar and Tara Devi have been sent for post-mortem examination....
