Couple jumps into Yamuna, search on
PRAYAGRAJ, July 13 -- A couple reportedly jumped into the Yamuna from the New Yamuna Bridge on Saturday. A video of the incident has gone viral on social media, though its authenticity remains unverified by HT.
Despite an extensive search by police and local boatmen, no trace of the couple had been found by late evening, as the river continued to flow at high levels.
As per reports, at around 8 am on Saturday, the couple reached the bridge, climbed over the railing, and jumped into the river.
The act was so sudden that bystanders had no time to intervene. Water police and divers launched an extensive search operation, covering nearly 10 kilometers and using nets to locate them, but the efforts remained unsuccessful.
A floating bag was recovered from the river near the spot where the couple had jumped. Inside, officials found a class 10 certificate identifying the girl as a resident of a village in Karachhana development block located in the trans-Yamuna area of Prayagraj. Her father is employed at a private firm in Mumbai.
Water police in-charge Ravindra Nath stated that divers searched the area for several hours but found no trace of the bodies. Kydganj Police Station in-charge Sanjay Singh confirmed that the girl was a Class 11 student and that her family has been informed.
