LUCKNOW, Oct. 8 -- The state food safety and drugs administration (FSDA) has issued guidelines to regulate the sale and distribution of cough syrups after reports emerged of adverse effects in children. According to the guidelines, cough syrups should not be recommended for children under the age of five years, stated a press release shared with the media on Tuesday. As per the guidelines, cough syrups containing certain active ingredients should only be sold with a doctor's prescription. The department has emphasised the need for regular inspections of manufacturing facilities and testing of samples to ensure compliance with quality standards. The guidelines also highlight the importance of maintaining proper records of sales and distribution of cough syrups to prevent their misuse. The department has warned that any person or firm found violating these guidelines will be liable for prosecution under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940, and other relevant laws, it stated. The government has also urged the public to use cough syrups responsibly and only under the advice of a doctor. The public is advised to purchase medicines from authorised medical stores and to check the expiry date and batch number of the product before consuming it, it stated further.see also p12...
