Cough syrup nexus: Kingpin, father challenge FIRs, HC adjourns hearing
PRAYAGRAJ, Dec. 5 -- The Allahabad high court on Thursday adjourned hearing on petitions filed by Shubham Jaiswal, the alleged fugitive kingpin in the multi-crore codeine-based cough syrup nexus, and his father Bhola Prasad Jaiswal for a week. Both have filed separate writ petitions challenging the FIRs registered against them in the case.
The allegations against Shubham and his father are that they engineered a high-volume supply chain, moving codeine-based cough syrup from stock points in Ghaziabad and Varanasi to Jharkhand, West Bengal, Bihar, Nepal, and Bangladesh. Multiple shell firms were reportedly used to disguise illegal consignments as legitimate pharmaceutical shipments.
During a raid in Sonbhadra on October 18, police recovered thousands of bottles of codeine-based syrup hidden inside snack cartons. Truck drivers later informed officials that the consignment had originated from one of Jaiswal's front companies and was routed through his contacts in Ghaziabad. Later, drugs were moved across international borders. Multiple FIRs have been registered against Shubham Jaiswal and Bhola Prasad in Ghaziabad, Varanasi Jaunpur and other districts....
