Cough syrup nexus: Bail pleas of 2 accused nixed
LUCKNOW, Dec. 7 -- The additional district and sessions judge in Lucknow district court on Saturday rejected the bail applications of Vibhor Rana and Vishal Singh arrested by the Special Task Force (STF) from Saharanpur on November 12 in connection with a Rs.100-crore cough syrup scam.
Rejecting the bail application, the court observed that the matter relates to national and international smuggling of cough syrup on the basis of fake documents, hence there are no grounds to accept the plea.
The interrogation of Vibhor Rana and Vishal Singh reportedly led the STF to Amit Kumar Singh 'Tata', who was arrested on November 27.
A resident of Jaunpur, Amit Tata is allegedly operating a major illegal network dealing in codeine-based cough syrup.
The illegal network is said to be spread across several states and neighbouring countries, confirmed senior Special Task Force officials.
"During interrogation, Amit Singh 'Tata' stated that he was introduced to Shubham Jaiswal of Prahlad Ghat, Varanasi, through Vikas Singh, a resident of Azamgarh," a Special Task Force officer said. htc...
