Rudrapur, June 7 -- Amid heavy rush of tourists in Nainital and surrounding tourist places over the weekends, police have imposed a ban on two-wheelers' entry in these areas for three days from Friday, officials aware of the matter said. Thousands of bikers come to these places particularly in Nainital from plain areas over the weekend. Police are intercepting and stopping bikers at five entry points and sending them back, they added. During the ban, only local bikers will be allowed after checking their identity cards. Police have taken this step to avoid chaos or untoward incidents caused by excessive movement of bikes, said officials. "Police have banned the entry of bikers leading to Nainital and other tourist places in the wake of increasing weekend rush, especially with Eid to be celebrated on Saturday. Around 3,000 bikers enter Nainital and it not only causes chaos but also chokes roads, leading to massive jams," said PN Meena, senior superintendent of police (SSP), Nainital district, on Friday. Nainital police change traffic plans and divert the traffic during weekends during tourist season. The motive is to ensure smooth traffic and avoid road congestions. Police have issued a traffic plan for this weekend, officials said. "I have instructed station officers and in-charge police outposts concerned to conduct checking and stop bikes in their respective areas, so that bikers can't head to tourist places. Four wheelers will be allowed but they will be parked in designated parking places," said SSP. Digvijay Singh Bisht, president, hotel and restaurants association, Nainital said, "We support the police's step because heavy rush of bikes over the weekend and during festivals leads to traffic jams. Apart from this, fear of accidents due to overspeeding also persists."...
