Convictions double in Agra in early 2025, women's cases see surge
AGRA, May 20 -- The Agra Police Commissionerate has recorded a sharp rise in conviction of undertrials in the first four months of 2025, with the number of convicts doubling compared to the same period in 2024. According to official data, 799 undertrials were convicted between January 1 and April 30 this year, a steep increase from 394 convictions during the corresponding period last year.
The data, released by the media cell of the Commissionerate, also showed that the number of cases resulting in conviction rose from 272 in early 2024 to 561 in 2025. Officials attribute this to focused efforts aimed at strengthening investigations and coordination with the prosecution.

"Crimes against women also saw a rise in conviction rates. In early 2024, 27 cases ended in conviction, resulting in 35 accused being punished, including 9 sentenced to life imprisonment. In the first four months of 2025, 50 cases led to convictions, with 77 accused found guilty, and 8 of them sentenced to life terms," ACP Sukanya added.
The Commissionerate's family counselling centre has also shown improved results. In 2023, it resolved 546 matrimonial disputes. The number grew to 1,053 in 2024. In just the first four months of 2025, 601 such disputes have already been resolved....
