LUCKNOW, May 17 -- The labour department has decided to establish convenience centres for labourers. Sheds, toilets, rooms and other necessary facilities will be provided for labourers, so that they do not face any inconvenience in performing their tasks, an official said. If a person comes to hire a labourer from these facility centres, then they will be provided labour after completing the registration process. These facility centres will be built on the land of municipal corporation, development authority, public works department and any other department, whose land ownership will remain with the concerned department. These centres will be operated by the municipal corporation, which will remain open for labour/labour registration from 6 am to 10 am every day. After this, these centres will also be used by the municipal corporation as tax offices or other important works. Divisional commissioner Roshan Jacob inspected various labour camps in Arjunganj Ahimamau crossing, Transport Nagar, Gauri Bazar crossing, Awadh crossing, Buddheshwar Crossing and Telibagh Crossing on Lucknow-Kanpur Road on Friday. During the inspection, she directed that all zonal executive engineers should visit their respective areas and identify the operating labour camps and ensure action to shift them to another place 50-100 square meters away, so that the problem of traffic jams can be solved. She also directed the labour department and municipal corporation to jointly identify suitable places for such camps in the city and provide a list. During the inspection, the sites inspected by Jacob were found to be suitable and she gave her consent to build labour camps there.
