LUCKNOW, May 28 -- A 55-year-old murder accused, Shiv Kumar, escaped from police custody at Balrampur Hospital while undergoing treatment on May 24, officials said on Tuesday. He had been arrested in March for allegedly killing his son with an axe. Following the escape, an FIR has been registered against both Shiv Kumar and the two constables assigned to guard him, they added. According to officials, Shiv Kumar, a resident of Rahimnagar, was arrested by Mahanagar police on March 25 for allegedly murdering his son. He was lodged in Gosainganj district jail. However, due to respiratory issues, he was referred to Balrampur Hospital on May 19. On the day of the escape, Shiv Kumar was in the custody of constables Ravindra Kumar (Dubagga police station) and Ravikant (Itaunja police station). Around 12:30pm, his presence in the hospital ward was confirmed by warden Pushpendra Verma. At around 1pm, doctors discharged him. While the constables were occupied with collecting discharge papers, Shiv Kumar managed to slip away. By the time the constables returned, the undertrial had vanished from his hospital bed. A search within the premises yielded no result. The jail administration and Wazirganj police were immediately informed, but despite hectic efforts, including a raid at his residence in Rahimnagar, the accused remains untraceable....
