Contractor booked week after fire destroys over 80 shanties
LUCKNOW, April 30 -- Nearly a week after a major fire gutted over 80 shanties in a slum area under Krishna Nagar police station limits, police have lodged an FIR (first information report) against the contractor accused of setting up the illegal settlement.
The FIR, registered on April 27, names contractor Sanjay Gupta and others under Sections 287 and 324(5) of the BNS, Krishna Nagar SHO Pradhyuman Kumar Singh confirmed on Tuesday. "The complaint was filed by Shubham Kumar, a resident of Kanausi in Ashok Nagar, near the land where the fire broke out," he added.
According to the FIR, the fire started around 1 am on April 22 on vacant land adjacent to Shubham's house.
Roughly 100 shanties had been erected there, allegedly without permission. Shubham stated that several complaints had been made to the LMC and local authorities seeking the removal of the encroachments, but no steps were taken. "We repeatedly asked the authorities to act. The slum dwellers told us they were paying rent to Sanjay Gupta and refused to leave," Shubham alleged. He further said that the burning of wires to extract scrap and the use of illegal electricity connections had become routine, posing constant threats to nearby homes....
