Kanpur, Dec. 3 -- A police constable was brutally attacked, dragged on the street, held captive, and left critically injured with head injuries caused by a sharp weapon, after he attempted to mediate in a village dispute in Kewtan ka Dera, Umrahat, in Hamirpur. The police post in-charge, who rushed to the spot, was forced to flee for his life as the mob targeted his private vehicle with stones, forcing him to retreat and call for backup. The constable, attached to the Haraulipur police post under Kurara police station, has been rushed to Kanpur after his condition was serious. CO Sadar Rajesh Kamal said "the constable had gone as a part of the investigation into a clash between two groups. He was attacked, and has suffered serious head injuries." The incident was triggered when the 28-year-old constable, deployed to investigate a complaint of assault between two groups, arrived at the settlement. Following the emergency summons, heavy police reinforcement was mobilised to the village, successfully extracting the injured constable.
