Meerut, Aug. 13 -- In a tragic incident during night patrol duty, Constable Monu Kumar, 29, drowned in a deep pond in the Dilari area of Moradabad in the early hours of Tuesday. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and local divers have been deployed to search for the missing policeman. Originally from Behta Hajipur village in Loni Border, Ghaziabad district, Monu Kumar was posted at the Dilari police station. According to police officials, he was patrolling on Leopard No. 3 with fellow constable Amarpal Singh when they passed through the Badera forest. The two spotted several people fishing with nets near Teli's culvert. With the water level running high, the constables instructed the fishermen to leave for safety. Monu then began removing the net himself, but slipped suddenly and fell into the deep pond. His colleague immediately informed the police station and senior officials. The NDRF team and local divers launched a search operation, which has been hampered by a strong current and considerable depth.
