LUCKNOW, Oct. 7 -- The Uttar Pradesh Congress, on Monday, launched the 'Vote Chor Gaddi Chhod' signature campaign among farmers and urged the state government to implement the MSP guarantee law as soon as possible. Addressing the Kisan Nyay Yoddha Sammelan on Monday, state Congress chief Ajay Rai stated that pending payments of thousands of crores to the UP farmers should be released immediately. He also called for an increase in sugarcane prices and the withdrawal of excessive electricity charges and smart meters. Rai said crop insurance should be provided through government companies with proper compensation for farmers. He also urged that state canals be cleaned and adequate irrigation arrangements made to ensure farmers have access to water. Party state in-charge Avinash Pandey said addressing the exploitation of farmers by moneylenders and implementing debt relief schemes are major issues currently neglected in the state.
