Congress aims to finish rejig in time for '27 polls
Dehradun, Oct. 26 -- The Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee (UKPCC) has set an ambitious target to complete its organisational restructuring by the end of this year in preparation for the 2027 assembly elections.
State Congress president Karan Mahara has drawn up a detailed plan to strengthen the party organisation down to the booth level over the next two months.
Senior vice-president (organisation) of the Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee (UKPCC), Suryakant Dhasmana, said the reorganisation of all 27 organisational districts of the state will be announced soon.
"Once the new district presidents are appointed, they will be responsible for activating the block committees in their respective districts and reconstituting any that are inactive. This work must be completed within a week," he said.
Dhasmana added that the appointment of Booth Level Agents (BLAs) across all polling booths in the state will be completed by November 15. A proposal has also been finalised to establish 100% booth committees in all 70 assembly constituencies of the state by December 31, he said.
Following the formation of booth committees, Dhasmana said the party will launch a series of organisational activities, including booth, block, and district-level conventions and training camps, starting in early 2026. "All frontal organisations, departments, and cells of the party will actively participate in these programmes," he said.
He further informed that the party's national leadership will review the progress of these initiatives, and observers or in-charges will be deputed from the All India Congress Committee (AICC) to various districts to oversee the implementation.
In August, Uttarakhand Congress in-charge Kumari Selja said that the party will strengthen its organisation at all levels under Sangathan Srijan (organisation-revamp) campaign and will work collectively to ensure victory in the 2027 assembly elections.
"District presidents will be appointed, and we will reinforce our organisation at the mandal and booth levels. As only one-and-a-quarter years left for the 2027 assembly elections, the Congress party will win.....and for this, all leaders and workers will work together," she said.
"At the grassroots level, people have clearly shown their intent for change. But BJP misused money, power and resorted to mischief at several places. Everyone saw what happened publicly with our Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Nainital (during panchayat elections). Even the media is being controlled , mediapersons tell us this privately. The administration was misused to such an extent that even the courts had to intervene. This has given us an opportunity to be more vigilant," Selja added.
The Congress party's Sangathan Srijan campaign in Uttarakhand was concluded on September 30, with all observers submitting their reports to AICC general secretary (organisation) KC Venugopal and state party in-charge Kumari Selja.
Twenty seven observers were deployed for the campaign. The programme was organised on the directions of Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and Lok Sabha opposition leader Rahul Gandhi, and is expected to yield positive results for the party, said the state Congress leaders....
