Dehradun, Sept. 2 -- Leaders and workers of both the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress came face to face on Monday after BJP workers marched towards the Congress headquarters in Dehradun, protesting against remarks made by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi against Prime Minister Narendra Modi's mother. The Congress alleged that their office was attacked during the protest. "BJP workers attacked our office...they misbehaved with our women workers, pushing and hurling abuses at them," Dhasmana said while addressing reporters. Earlier in the day, the state Congress vice president Suryakant Dhasmana wrote to director general of police (DGP) Deepam Seth, seeking tight security arrangements to prevent any untoward incident in view of the BJP protest. "I want to inform you that reliable sources have revealed that today, Monday, September 1, the Bharatiya Janata Party is planning to protest along with anti-social elements at our state Congress headquarters, Rajiv Bhawan, Rajpur Road...In this regard, as soon as I received the information yesterday, Sunday, I requested the SSP Dehradun to make proper security arrangements and prevent any such untoward incident... If any attempt of violence or untoward incident is made by BJP members, then the entire responsibility will lie with the BJP, the state government, and the police administration," wrote Dhasmana. Congress chief spokesperson Garima Mehra Dasauni said, "During my political career, the BJP has attacked the Congress office several times, but without success every time." Responding to the allegations, state BJP media in-charge Manveer Singh Chauhan said, "The Congress party, for its political gain, is crossing every limit of decency."...
