PRAYAGRAJ, Sept. 6 -- Uttar Pradesh deputy chief minister Keshav Prasad Maurya launched a scathing attack on the Congress party during his visit to Prayagraj on Friday. Speaking to the media persons, he said, "Congress is the mother of corruption. It has drowned the country in a sea of graft." Citing former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, Maurya reminded that during Congress rule, only 15 paise out of every rupee sent by the Centre reached the poor. He alleged that corruption worth more than Rs.68 lakh crore took place during the entire tenure of the Congress governments. He also accused Congress leader Rahul Gandhi of engaging in "theft and arrogance," adding that several countries which gained independence after India have become developed nations, while India continues to be classified as a developing country-largely due to the Congress party's legacy of corruption. To combat corruption, Maurya said, the Modi government has opened over 55 crore Jan Dhan bank accounts, enabling direct benefit transfers (DBT) to beneficiaries without any middlemen. On the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections, the deputy CM said, "The people of Bihar will give a fitting reply to those who insult Prime Minister Narendra Modi by pressing the lotus (BJP's election symbol) button." He expressed confidence in a sweeping victory for the NDA under the leadership of chief minister Nitish Kumar. He added that the Rashtriya Janata Dal, Congress, and their allies are already facing defeat in all respects. Reacting to a controversial post on social media platform X by the Congress-where the party linked the letter 'B' to both 'Bidi' (a local cigarette) and 'Bihar'-Maurya accused Congress of repeatedly insulting Hindi-speaking states like Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. Speaking about the flood situation, Maurya assured that the government is fully prepared to handle any challenges. Relief efforts are underway with the help of NDRF and SDRF teams wherever necessary....
