Dehradun, Oct. 28 -- The Opposition Congress has sought an extension of the two-day special session to be convened on November 3 and 4 to commemorate the state's silver jubilee. Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee (UKPCC) chief Karan Mahara said that it was a matter of great joy that the state was completing 25 years of statehood, but the government was making a mockery of the situation by convening a special session for only two days on November 3 and 4. He demanded that the government extend the session to at least nine days. He said that the government should have continued the session from November 3 to November 9, the state's foundation day. "Only then would issues related to public concerns be raised in the session, and people would be able to know the situation regarding the disaster that occurred in Uttarakhand during the monsoon season and the current situation," he said. Mahara said that if the duration of the session were extended, the economic situation of the state would also be discussed in the assembly. "There have been two instances of recruitment exam scams in the state in 2022 and 2025. Besides this, crime is continuously increasing, especially crimes against women. Law and order has also collapsed," he added. The state Congress chief said, "The elected representatives want to discuss issues like deteriorating law and order, crimes against women, corruption, illegal mining, unemployment, and other pressing problems with the government, but by calling a two-day special session, the government has proven that it is not accountable to the people." "The government should have held the session in Gairsain, then the true spirit of a hill state would be realized. After all, why was this hill state formed?" Earlier, Leader of Opposition and senior Congress leader Yashpal Arya said his party will corner the state government during the upcoming two-day special session of the state. Arya said the "law and order situation has completely collapsed in the state", and "corruption has crossed all limits." "There is an atmosphere of fear in the state. The law and order situation has completely collapsed. Corruption has crossed all limits, and the BJP now has nothing left to say. If their record is placed before the people, it will reveal how they have looted Uttarakhand and created an environment of anarchy. Today, Uttarakhand ranks among the top in corruption. If a discussion is held in the Assembly, it will show how the state once built on the sacrifices of martyrs and activists has been reduced to dust," he said. "The BJP spends Rs.1,000 crore just to polish its image....the question is, whose money is that? If the BJP is truly honest, it should answer our questions. When our MLAs raise these issues, I don't think the government will be able to escape accountability," added Arya....
