Concerns raised over women's issues at AIDWA conference
LUCKNOW, Oct. 5 -- Issues like violence, illiteracy, unemployment and others that most women face figured prominently during the opening day of the two-day 13th state conference of All India Democratic Women's Association (AIDWA) which began at Udyan Bhawan in Lucknow on Saturday.
Participants pledged to fight patriarchy by uniting women from across the country. Chief guest Neha Dixit underscored how women are breaking free from many constraints.
"Despite technological advances and digitalisation, women are unable to access their rights due to negligent policies. Today's women are empowered and there is a need for equality," Dixit opined.
Subhashini Ali, national vice president AIDWA, claimed that crimes against women are highest in the state. "Atrocities against Dalits and women have increased. Besides, the state has the highest infant mortality rate at 70 per thousand, compared to only five in Kerala," she further claimed.
"We must fight for the rights guaranteed by the Constitution. We must get united to safeguard our rights," Ali said. General secretary Mariam Dhawale, citing AIDWA conferences held in 26 states, opined: "Every woman has the right to live with dignity and respect. Voices are being raised everywhere to protect the Constitution and secure rights. Those in power are depriving us of our rights. Our fight is not only about our rights but also about the need for work, inflation, education, water and land."
Madhu Garg and Vandana Mishra were also present on the occasion. Over 130 women are participating in the conference....
