Complete all dev projects in Kashi timely: Minister
VARANASI, Nov. 18 -- Directing officials to come to meetings fully prepared, finance minister Suresh Khanna on Monday said all development projects should be completed in a time-bound manner and better services should be provided to the public.
He chaired a meeting of the officials to take stock of ongoing projects in Varanasi. Khanna said the government's primary priority is to provide employment.
The meeting was held at the Circuit House auditorium. Varanasi district magistrate Satyendra Kumar gave information on various schemes and the district's contribution to economic growth of the state.
The DM said the district's current population is 36.77 lakh (based on 2011 census), which is projected to reach 43.87 lakh by 2025. The district's current GDP is Rs 51,036 crore (at current prices) and Rs 29,797 crore (at constant prices), with an annual growth rate of 13.8%.
Kumar further said Varanasi's contribution to the state GDP is 1.99%, and the per capita income is Rs 103,354. Khanna, the minister-in-charge of Varanasi, stressed the need to qualitatively increase the contribution of agriculture and allied sectors to GDP. Various fisheries schemes need to be promoted extensively to elevate agriculture-related sectors to new heights....
