Dehradun, Oct. 17 -- Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Thursday said the state government was committed towards the goal of modernisation and expansion of the road network across Uttarakhand, in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision- which emphasises connectivity as the backbone of sustained development. The chief minister addressed reporters following the laying of the foundation stone for the reconstruction of the Khatima-Melaghat State Highway (SH-107) in Udham Singh Nagar district, which was preceded by a ceremonial puja. The project, estimated at Rs.20.89 crore (Rs.2089.74 lakh), will cover the reconstruction of a 11.50 kilometre stretch of the highway and provides for installation of a KC drainage system, road safety infrastructure enhancements, better road signage, and strengthening and reinforcement of the road with TBMs and BCs. Addressing the gathering, Dhami said the road was a key developmental artery for Khatima and a crucial link to the India-Nepal border. "Upgrading this road will ensure smooth transportation for Khatima and surrounding rural areas while promoting border trade, tourism, and educational access," said Dhami. The chief minister also emphasised that the administration would pay special attention to preventing soil erosion and improving drainage systems, in order to ensure long-term durability and safety of the highway. He added that Khatima is now emerging as an educational hub, attracting students not only from Uttarakhand but also from neighbouring border areas.
