Meerut, Nov. 9 -- A second-year Bachelor of Arts (BA) student set himself on fire on the DAV Degree PG College campus in Muzaffarnagar district's Budhana town on Saturday allegedly over harassment and negligence by the college administration regarding a fee-related issue, the police said. Deputy superintendent of police Gajendra Pal Singh confirmed that the student was in a critical condition in Meerut and that his initial statement was being recorded. "We are investigating the circumstances that led to the incident. Both the college administration and the student's family will be questioned," said a senior officer. The college administration has announced the formation of an internal inquiry committee to look into the allegations. The 20-year-old student reportedly poured petrol over himself before setting himself afire within the college premises. His fellow students rushed to save him, managing to douse the fire and take him to a nearby hospital. Doctors referred him to Meerut Medical College in a critical condition. Hundreds of agitated students gathered outside the college gate, raising slogans against the administration and demanding a fair and transparent probe.
