College student dies after speeding bus hits scooter in Meerut
MEERUT, Aug. 2 -- A 20-year-old college student was killed after a speeding electric bus hit her scooter near the Zero Mile intersection in Meerut on Friday, police said.
The victim, Manisha Singh, was a student at Raghunath Girls' PG College.
According to eyewitnesses, Manisha was on her way to college on a scooter when a high-speed electric bus coming from the Modipuram side collided with her two-wheeler at a busy junction. The impact was so strong that the 20-year-old was thrown off the scooter and fell onto the road, where the bus ran over her.
Passersby immediately alerted the police, who reached the spot and rushed the injured student to the hospital. However, doctors declared her dead on arrival due to the severe injuries she had sustained in the accident.
Meanwhile, police took custody of the bus and detained the driver for questioning. SP Traffic Raghvendra Kumar Mishra said, "A formal investigation into the incident has been initiated to
determine the exact cause and circumstances of the accident. The bus driver has been arrested and on the basis of the formal complaint received, an FIR will be registered against him"....
