CO office to come up on land seizedfrom Sambhal violence accused Satha
MEERUT, Oct. 20 -- The land seized from Sambhal violence accused Shariq Satha will soon house the office of the circle officer (CO) of Asmoli. Authorities confirmed that the property spread over 200 square metre land and valued at Rs.2.31 crore was earlier demolished by the police after being declared illegally acquired.
Sambhal superintendent of police Krishan Kumar Bishnoi said the district police boundaries have been reorganised to improve law enforcement and a new policing circle has been created. A proposal has been sent to the district administration to construct the new CO office on the confiscated land.
The property, located near Hindupura Kheda police outpost in Sambhal's Nakhasa area, was seized on April 20 following a court order. Officials said that Satha had purchased the property using proceeds from illegal activities. "After the Jama Masjid survey violence, the district's security structure was reorganised. The new Asmoli CO office will come up on the confiscated land of absconding accused Shariq Satha," SP Bishnoi said.
The plot, situated on the Sambhal-Hasanpur main road, has been proposed for permanent allocation to the police department. The SP added that setting up the CO office there would make policing more efficient and improve surveillance and response in the sensitive zone.
According to the Special Investigation Team (SIT) report, Shariq Satha masterminded the violence while sitting abroad. He allegedly instructed his associates to open fire using foreign-made weapons, leading to five deaths. The incident also saw a deadly assault on police personnel attempting to control the mob.
Investigators found that Satha's aides - identified as Mulla Afroz, Ghulam, and Waris - carried out the armed attack under his direction. All three were later arrested and sent to jail after the SIT probe confirmed their involvement.
Police said that the National Security Act (NSA) has been invoked against Mulla Afroz, while similar action is being considered against Ghulam and Waris. The two have not yet filed for bail, and police say NSA will be imposed once they do.
The violence, which erupted on November 24, 2024, during a survey near Jama Masjid, quickly spread from the mosque area to Hindupura Kheda. Mobs torched several vehicles and launched violent attacks on law enforcement officials.
Even district magistrate Rajender Pensiya and SP Krishan Kumar Bishnoi came under attack but were saved by police reinforcements. However, then-CO Anuj Kumar Chaudhary and three other policemen sustained injuries during stone-pelting....
