LUCKNOW, Nov. 8 -- Key aspects of the revised Comprehensive Mobility Plan (CMP) to tackle the state capital's growing traffic congestion were finalised at a high-level meeting chaired by Lucknow divisional commissioner Vijay Vishwas Pant here on Friday evening.
The CMP proposed major interventions, including an elevated road along the Haidar Canal route, better connectivity of outer routes, and reorganizing transport hubs. The commissioner directed the Public Works Department (PWD) and Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) to conduct a fresh ground survey of the proposed elevated road to ensure its feasibility and public utility.
He stressed that traffic management projects must directly benefit commuters and align with the city's long-term development needs.
The meeting held at the Lucknow Smart City office auditorium in the Lalbagh area of the state capital focused on improving road infrastructure, public transport, and long-term mobility strategies for the state capital. The commissioner asked the transport department and the traffic police to examine the proposal in detail and submit an implementation report soon.
Traffic police officials proposed several measures to ease congestion, including connecting Kisan Path with the Sitapur and Agra expressways to divert heavy traffic from inner-city roads, widening Kisan Path's service roads, relocating Transport Nagar near Kisan Path to prevent large trucks from entering the city, and shifting major bus terminals to the outskirts to reduce central traffic pressure. They also suggested restricting e-rickshaw movement on busy routes to improve traffic flow.
Officials from UP Metro, RTO, PWD, NHAI, Airport Authority, and LMC attended the meeting.
The commissioner directed all departments to coordinate closely and expedite the implementation of approved projects. He said that the CMP initiatives aim to create a safer, faster, and more efficient transport network while preparing Lucknow for future urban growth....
