GORAKHPUR, May 13 -- Chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday emphasised the importance of dialogue and public engagement as key pillars of a thriving democracy and sustainable urban development. The chief minister made the remarks after inaugurating an urban facilitation centre and eastern Uttar Pradesh's first senior citizen day care centre in Gorakhpur. He noted that meaningful civic participation is essential for improving both the ease of doing business and the quality of life in cities. "In a democracy, the public is not just seen as ordinary citizens, but revered as 'Janata Janardan'. It is with this spirit that we must move forward," he said. Built at a cost of Rs 14.22 crore, the two facilities aim to strengthen civic infrastructure in Gorakhpur, the UP government said in a statement. "Real change happens when people embrace it as a collective movement. The vision of a Smart City can only be realised when every citizen engages with the new systems being implemented," he said. Chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday said no eligible person should be left without a permanent house under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. He issued this instruction to officials during the Janata Darshan programme at the Digvijayanath auditorium at the Gorakhnath temple complex where he listened to grievances of around 150 people. He further stated that financial constraints should not hinder anyone's medical treatment. Addressing appeals for financial aid in medical cases, the chief minister instructed officials to fast-track the preparation of hospital estimates and forward them to the state government to ensure necessary support through the Chief Minister's Discretionary Fund. During the programme held on the second day of his visit to Gorakhpur, the chief minister gave the assurance that resolving every genuine grievance remains a top priority of the government. He instructed officials to ensure timely, sensitive and quality redressal of complaints. He directed strict legal action in complaints related to land encroachment, particularly in cases where victims had faced prolonged hardship.
