CM Yogi urged to restore student unions
GORAKHPUR, July 28 -- In a convention held on Sunday at Nepal Club, former office bearers of student unions from various universities and degree colleges came together to emphasize the crucial role of youth in nation-building.
The student leaders collectively appealed to chief minister Yogi Adityanath to recognise the sentiments of the youth and restore student unions, stating that the energy and ideas of young minds have the potential to turn challenges into opportunities.
During the convention, a three-point resolution was passed, demanding: National University status for Deen Dayal Upadhyay (DDU) Gorakhpur University; withdrawal of all allegedly false cases filed against student leaders, and immediate restoration of student unions, calling them the nursery of new leadership.
Addressing media persons, former president of DDU Gorakhpur University Students' Union, Dinesh Chandra Tripathi, and former vice president Dr Mahendra Rai, stated that student unions refine youth leaders as agents of change.
"Without this driving force, the vision of a developed India cannot be fulfilled," they remarked. "We appeal to CM Yogi Adityanath - himself a former student leader - to understand the aspirations of today's youth and empower them for future leadership."
Former secretary of the DDU Students' Union Dr Chandra Prakash Tripathi noted that three generations of former office bearers from the 1970s to 1990s participated in the convention, reiterating the importance of constructive youth leadership in driving societal progress.
BJP MLC Devendra Pratap Singh declared that the convention marks the beginning of a new chapter in student politics. He stressed that the "nursery of Indian democracy" must be restored.
Former student leader Vibhrat Chand Kaushik acknowledged that while student union elections are currently banned, student leaders continue to be actively involved in addressing youth issues.
Sanjay Kumar Pandey and Rajkumar Rai affirmed that the struggle would persist and announced plans for a state-level convention to be held in Lucknow to further press their demands. They also criticised the rising fees and alleged arbitrary actions by university authorities, warning that such practices are fuelling resentment and unrest among students on campus....
