KANPUR, Aug. 6 -- Chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday visited flood-hit Auraiya district to assess relief efforts and meet families displaced by rising waters of the Yamuna River. Addressing villagers and officials at the district collectorate, Adityanath said, "Water released from Rajasthan's Chambal River caused the Yamuna to rise 4.5 metres above its danger level of 113 metres." He added that nearby districts including Agra, Etawah, and Jalaun were also affected. Adityanath said damage surveys would be conducted to assess crop losses and facilitate compensation. He urged residents to remain alert as flood risks may continue through September. Over 5,000 families in 12 villages of Auraiya are reportedly impacted. The chief minister distributed relief kits and financial aid to affected families, including cheques of Rs 4 lakh to the kin of those who died in the floods. Beneficiaries also received certificates and grants under housing and agriculture schemes. Statewide, rescue and relief efforts are underway with the deployment of 16 National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams, 18 state disaster response force (SDRF) teams, and 31 units from the provincial armed constabulary (PAC) units. Over 1,250 boats have been pressed into service for evacuation and transportation.
