CM orders swift relief as floods hit 22 UP districts
LUCKNOW, Aug. 27 -- Continuous rainfall and rising river levels have triggered floods in 22 Uttar Pradesh districts, affecting over 2.5 lakh people. Chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday directed officials to expedite relief and rescue efforts, ensuring safe relocation of affected families and care for livestock.
Relief commissioner Bhanu Chandra Goswami said 43 tehsils and 768 villages are inundated, impacting 2,52,839 people. About 33,370 cattle have been shifted, and 37,279 hectares of land submerged. No homes have been damaged so far, he added.
Relief measures include 550 boats for rescue, 278 shelters housing 3,089 people, and 586 medical teams. On Tuesday, 6,458 food packets, 7,143 lunch packets, chlorine tablets, ORS, and cattle fodder were distributed.
Flood-hit districts include Varanasi, Prayagraj, Bahraich, Banda, Kanpur Nagar, Mirzapur, and others. Over 1,022 flood posts monitor the situation round the clock, officials said....
