PUNE, Nov. 7 -- Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday formed an inquiry committee to probe the allegations of irregularities in a Rs.300-crore Pune land deal involving a company linked to Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief and deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar's son Parth Pawar. Ajit, however, has distanced himself from the case, saying he doesn't support any "wrong deeds". According to a government official, 40 acres of "Mahar Vatan land belonging to the government" in Pune's upmarket Mundhwa area was sold to Amadea Enterprises LLP - a private company in which Parth Pawar is a partner - for Rs.300 crore on May 20, 2025, while its market value is estimated at Rs.1,800 crore. It further revealed that a stamp duty worth Rs.21 crore was also waived. Documents accessed by HT revealed that the 40-acre plot in Mundhwa was transferred in the names of private individuals, who sold it to Amadea Enterprises. In the agreement, 272 people sold the Mundhwa land to Amadea Enterprises through a power of attorney granted to Shital Tejwani, a Pune resident. Amid Opposition uproar, the Mahayuti government has formed an inquiry panel, to be led by additional chief secretary (Revenue) Vikas Kharge. Inspector general of registration, Ravindra Binwade, said the panel has been asked to submit the report within 10 days. Terming the land transaction "prima facie serious", Fadnavis said: "I have sought all the information from the relevant departments. Orders have been given to conduct a probe. I can speak about it and the action to be taken only after getting all the details." The state government has also suspended sub-registrar R B Taru at the Pune Land Registration Office. An inquiry has also been ordered against tehsildar Suryakant Yewale, who was suspended in another case. Late on Thursday, Bavdhan Police filed an FIR against Parth's business partner Digvijay Patil, Taru, and Tejwani for alleged misappropriation, and cheating in stamp duty. The FIR, however, doesn't name Parth. "We have registered case based on the complaint given by DIG Santosh Hingane under sections 316 (5), 318 (2), 3 (5), of BNS, and section 59 of Maharashtra Stamp Act," said DCP Vishal Gaikwad. While Parth Pawar is yet to respond, Ajit said: "When children grow up, they do their own business. I don't support any wrong deeds... I have nothing to do with this case..." Asked about the registered address mentioned in the deal - which matches his residence - Pawar replied, "That bungalow belongs to Parth Ajit Pawar. That address is in his name." Mahar Watan land refers to agricultural land allotted by the colonial regime in Maharashtra to the Mahar and Ramoshi communities in lieu of salaries for service to the village administration. The system was abolished in 1958, transferring such land to government ownership....
