CM for stringent measures to curb stubble burning in state
Lucknow, Oct. 12 -- Chief minister Yogi Adityanath, on Saturday, directed officials to take stringent measures to curb stubble burning across Uttar Pradesh, setting a target of achieving zero such incidents by the financial year 2025-26.
The government has issued detailed guidelines for strict enforcement and farmer sensitisation. The CM warned that stubble burning severely harms the environment and public health, urging farmers to adopt eco-friendly alternatives for crop residue management.
District magistrates have been asked to ensure real-time monitoring through satellite images, with special attention to sensitive districts. To deter the practice, environmental compensation will be imposed on violators-Rs 2,500 for burning residue on less than two acres, Rs 5,000 for two to five acres, and Rs 15,000 for more than five acres. A nodal officer will oversee every 50-100 farmers to ensure adherence to the norms, supported by personnel from revenue, police, agriculture, rural development, and panchayati raj departments.
The CM also appealed to public representatives to actively participate in the campaign, stressing that coordinated efforts are crucial for a clean and pollution-free UP. Farmers caught burning crop residue will be stopped immediately and penalised as per the prescribed norms....
