Dehradun, Aug. 5 -- Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Monday said the Uttarakhand government is committed to safeguarding the "cultural values and original demographic structure" of the state, adding that a series of strong legal and administrative steps have been taken to protect its heritage and ensure justice for all sections of society. Speaking at a programme organised at Shri Brahma Niwas Ashram on Saptasarovar Road, Bhupatwala, to mark the 50th Nirvana Day of Satguru Lal Das Maharaj, the chief minister said that Uttarakhand has become the first state in the country to implement the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), aimed at promoting equal rights and legal justice irrespective of religion or gender. Dhami emphasised that the state has also enforced a strict anti-conversion law to curb illegal religious conversions and has taken stringent action against those spreading hatred and disrupting social harmony. "We are fully committed to preserving the cultural values and original demography of Devbhoomi Uttarakhand," he said. The chief minister highlighted the efforts being made under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to revive and promote Sanatan Dharma globally. "Today, the world is embracing the principles of our ancient Sanatan culture. Under the Prime Minister's guidance, we are working towards the preservation and promotion of our spiritual and cultural heritage," he said. He said the Rishikesh-Haridwar corridor is proposed to be developed in the state, which will give Haridwar a grand and spiritual appearance on the lines of Kashi Vishwanath Dham and the rejuvenated Ayodhya. "This corridor will enhance connectivity and provide pilgrims with a more seamless spiritual experience," he added. Paying tribute to Pujya Satguru Lal Das Maharaj, Dhami said the revered saint dedicated his life to spirituality and public service. "He guided people toward the path of truth, devotion, and service. His speech had power, and his compassion was limitless, much like that of Lord Buddha. His life was a beacon of selfless service and social unity," the Chief Minister said. He also spoke about 'Operation Kalanemi', an initiative by the state government targeting individuals and groups who mislead people under the guise of religion. "Through this operation, we have acted against those who masquerade as spiritual leaders but defame Sanatan Dharma through deceit. These elements are being identified and exposed," he said. The Chief Minister further announced that Shrimad Bhagavad Gita will soon be introduced into the school curriculum to familiarise students with the core values of Indian philosophy. Additionally, a Centre for Hindu Studies has been established at Doon University, aimed at academic exploration and promotion of Sanatan traditions. Dhami said Uttarakhand, as Devbhoomi, will continue to protect its cultural roots while moving forward with inclusive development and legal reforms....
