Dehradun, Jan. 3 -- The state police department on Friday said it was close to arresting the sixth accused in the Tripura student murder case, who was earlier believed to have fled to Nepal after the crime.
Anjel Chakma, 24, a resident of Agartala who was pursuing MBA at a private university in Uttarakhand, died from injuries sustained during an attack that occurred in Dehradun on December 9 allegedly after he objected to racial slurs hurled at him and his brother Michael. Anjel died during treatment on December 26, and his post-mortem report stated that he died due to grievous injuries to his head and neck. Police said preliminary examination suggested that he received blows to his head and neck with a "kadaa" (bracelet) following a quarrel with six people near a liquor shop in Selaqui. Dehradun SSP Ajai Singh said, "Our inputs suggest that the sixth accused is hiding in an area bordering Nepal. He could be in Uttarakhand, UP and Bihar. We are close to arresting him and are hopeful of success in the next 24 hours."...
