Classics, miniature & pocket books in demand at book fair
Lucknow, Sept. 13 -- Miniature and pocket-size books, classics and literature written by famous Hindi litterateurs are among top picks at the ongoing National Book Fair.
From the classics of renowned writers like Nirala, Premchand, Parsai and Manto to modern day writers - Praveen Jha, Deepak Kumar, Vinod Kumar Shukla and Shakti Vyas are hot picks at almost all book stalls in the fair.
However, Mayank Kumar, a representative of Dinkar Books, said, "Suspense, thrillers, love stories and poems of both renowned and contemporary writers and poets are among the top sellers at our stall."
Atul Maheshwari, a representative of Vaani Publication, said that while serious readers are coming in groups to buy several books but due to social media, people are coming forward to buy books that have been publicised on such platforms. "We have received several customers who watched a video online after which they turned up to buy 'Gunao Ka Devta' and 'Deewar Me Ek Khidki Rehti Thi'. Besides, Premchand, Manto, Ismat Chughtai and Jaun Aeliya continued to remain popular picks among others," said Maheshwari.
Miniature and pocket books are among trends at the book fair. A pocket size copy of the Constitution which became popular after Indian National Congress leader Rahul Gandhi delivered speeches with the book in hand, sold like hot cake at the book fair.
"We have already sold more than 800 copies of the Constitution in Hindi. The copy is quite clear in print and has complete information of all the Acts in the constitution," said RL Baudh, a representative of Samvidhan Prachar Samiti.
At the same time Vivekananda literature and short books related to body, mind and soul are also popular among youth. "The pocket size books containing lectures delivered by Swami Vivekananda are preferred by youngsters. The set of books available in three volumes on life of Vivekananda and Ram Krishna Paramhans are also sought by readers," said Rahul Mitra, a representative of Ram Krishna Math, Nirala Nagar....
