Claim and objection processfor voter roll revision begins
LUCKNOW, Jan. 8 -- The claim and objection process under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls began on Tuesday after the Election Commission of India (ECI) completed the enumeration exercise.
During the claim and objection period, eligible voters can submit prescribed forms for inclusion or deletion of their names in the electoral roll. Political parties may also submit such forms through their booth-level agents (BLAs) for the enrolment or deletion of voters.
According to data released by the Uttar Pradesh Chief Electoral Office, political parties had submitted 128 forms for voter inclusion as of Wednesday. Of these, the Bharatiya Janata Party submitted 105 forms, the Bahujan Samaj Party 17, and the Samajwadi Party six.
The ECI has received 49,399 Form 7 applications from voters seeking deletion of their names before the publication of the draft electoral roll on January 6. It has also received 16,18,574 Form 6 applications from voters seeking enrolment prior to the release of the draft roll....
