CJI visits Buddha's birthplace Lumbini
GORAKHPUR, Sept. 8 -- Chief Justice of India (CJI) Bhushan R Gavai visited Lumbini, Nepal, the birthplace of Lord Buddha, on Saturday evening. The CJI, who is on a four-day official tour to the neighbouring country that began on September 4, lit a ceremonial lamp at the Maya Devi Temple complex there and prayed for global peace, human welfare and stronger India-Nepal ties.
He was accorded a warm welcome by Lumbini Development Trust Vice-Chair Dr Lharkyal Lama and other officials, who briefed him about the historical and spiritual significance of the UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Monks and representatives of the Lumbini Development Trust were also present on the occasion, reflecting the deep cultural and civilisational ties between India and Nepal. Circle officer, Maharajganj, Ankur Gautam said the CJI had reached Lumbini from Kathmandu but the police at the Indian side of the border were also on alert.
The CJI's Nepal tour also included his address at the India-Nepal Judicial Dialogue on "Justice Sector Reforms". The dialogue brought together top jurists, legal scholars and judges from both nations to exchange views on judicial cooperation, reforms and strengthening the rule of law in the region.
