Civic chief flags gaps in sanitation, sets deadlines for visually clean Lko
LUCKNOW, Dec. 8 -- The Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) has intensified its cleanliness drive after municipal commissioner Gaurav Kumar, during a late-night high-level review meeting on Saturday, flagged illegal dumping and poor upkeep of public facilities across several zones of the state capital.
He issued strict deadlines and warned officers that any lapse in execution will invite action. Kumar said several wards continue to struggle with unclean public toilets, unattended C&D waste points, encroached stormwater drains and unauthorised garbage dumping spots. Highlighting these persistent issues, he directed all zonal teams to deliver visible on-ground improvements within specified timelines.
The commissioner reviewed the status of 81 "best-performing" public toilets and instructed officials to complete pending painting and structural repairs by December 25. He said weak toilet structures will be demolished only after joint inspection and formal approval. Kumar said he will conduct random inspections of these toilets to monitor progress.
He ordered swift cleaning of all C&D waste points in model wards and directed teams to speed up desilting of drains. Encroachments on SWDs must be removed immediately, he said. He also instructed officers to remove RC bins installed at various locations and barred wards from dumping garbage in neighbouring wards. All unauthorised dumping points must be eliminated in the next phase of sanitation action.
