LUCKNOW, July 23 -- A city-based businessman was scammed out of Rs.1 crore by men who had assured him a dealership of a car company in eastern Uttar Pradesh, police said. Cyber police station inspector in-charge Brijesh Kumar Yadav confirmed that a case against the incident had been registered and an investigation was underway. The complainant, Ravitosh Asthana, vice president at CS Infra Construction and a resident of Vikalp Khand-5, had applied for a car dealership in Rasra, Ballia around two months ago. He found contact information through a Google search and submitted his application on a website he believed to be genuine. On May 15, he received an email from someone posing as a CRM officer, seeking official documents. Asthana complied, sending over all requested materials. Subsequently, on June 6, a man identifying himself as Vinod Jain from Dealer Development Cell sent him a contract letter via email.
