Chinese national, Indian MD jailed
Meerut, Aug. 28 -- A Chinese woman and an Indian company director were produced before the special CJM court in Meerut on Wednesday in connection with a Rs 10 crore GST evasion case.
The accused - identified as Alice Lee alias Lee Tengli, a security cashier in a TV screen manufacturing company, and Vinay Kumar, the company's managing director (MD) - were arrested by the intelligence wing of the GST department late Tuesday night from Noida. According to officials, the duo evaded taxes by misclassifying GST payments. Instead of paying the mandatory 28% GST, they allegedly submitted fake documents to pay only 18%, thereby saving 10% in taxes. Since 2019, the company - Tentek LED Display, based in Noida's Bangmen's Park - has reportedly evaded nearly Rs.10 crore in taxes. Vinay Kumar holds a 51% stake in the firm, while the remaining 49% is owned by two Chinese directors, Hu Li and Tang Kai.
A senior police official revealed that Alice Lee had previously been arrested in September 2021 by the Uttar Pradesh ATS in connection with fraudulent financial activities. She was accused of purchasing SIM cards using forged documents and carrying out transactions worth Rs.5 crore through various bank accounts.
Her business visa, issued in 2019, had expired in September 2020.
Both accused have been sent to jail, and the next hearing is scheduled for Monday....
