Chief secretary orders border vigil, raids to stop illegal liquor flow this Holi
LUCKNOW, March 1 -- UP chief secretary Shashi Prakash Goyal on Saturday ordered tough measures to stop illegal and spurious liquor from spoiling the Holi festivities, warning officials that no district should witness accidents linked to illicit alcohol.
Chairing a video conference with divisional commissioners, DMs and senior police officers, Goyal directed authorities to maintain vigilance. He instructed that the production and sale of illegal or spurious liquor must be completely stopped and ensured that no district witnesses any accident due to illicit alcohol. Officials were asked to carry out surprise inspections at liquor shops, dhabas and other vulnerable locations to check illegal sales and overpricing. Surveillance along interstate borders was ordered to be stepped up. Goyal also directed that authorised bhang shops must not sell cannabis. He warned against keeping liquor shops shut for unnecessarily long periods, saying it could fuel illegal trade and push consumers toward spurious alcohol. htc...
