Char Dham Yatra resumes 2 days after partial halt due to landslide
Mussoorie, July 29 -- The Char Dham Yatra to Kedarnath Dham resumed fully on Monday, two days after it was partially disrupted due to a massive landslide near Gaurikund. Triggered by continuous heavy rainfall, the landslide had blocked the pedestrian route to the shrine, temporarily halting the movement of pilgrims along the sacred trek.
Despite the difficult conditions, numerous devotees began arriving at Kedarnath on Monday to offer prayers. Security forces, including local police and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams, maintained a vigilant presence to ensure the safety of pilgrims.
Vinay Jhinkwan, executive engineer of the public works department (PWD) and District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), said teams had been working round the clock to clear the path. "The landslide had blocked the pedestrian route completely. Our teams have been manually removing huge boulders and debris. The path has been cleared considerably, though some large rocks remain. Until the route is fully cleared, pilgrims are being allowed to pass through the affected stretch in single file from either direction," he said.
