Harsh Singh, a pilgrim from Delhi who reached Kedarnath on Saturday morning, said, "We stood in the long queue of pilgrims at 5 am and could reach inside the temple and get darshan of Lord Kedarnath at around 12 noon due to the immense rush of pilgrims." Although the yatra has picked up, members of the hotel association in Uttarkashi said that it is nowhere near last year's numbers, and pilgrims are visiting the shrines, barring Kedarnath and Badrinath, in smaller numbers. Shailendra Matura, president of the Uttarkashi Hotel Association, said, "The daily pilgrim number for Gangotri and Yamunotri shrines is around 2,000, which is less compared to 5,000 pilgrims daily during the same period last year. Following the massive damage on both Yamunotri and Gangotri highways, we were doubtful the yatra would start, but thanks to the district administration, it has picked up after the roads were repaired speedily on war footing. We are hopeful the yatra will increase considerably in the coming days, as the monsoon has withdrawn from the state, meaning less rain."...
