VARANASI, Dec. 18 -- Virendra Singh, SP MP from Chandauli, has written to President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging the development of a textile park in Varanasi to provide a stable market for millions of poor weavers across Purvanchal. In his letter, the MP highlighted that Kashi's identity is deeply rooted in its traditions, Ganga-Jamuni culture, ghats, lanes, and Maa Ganga, and that its centuries-old weaving heritage has been preserved by generations of craftsmen and artisans. He proposed that a textile park be developed in Sevapuri or another suitable area of Varanasi, where small weavers and artisans could sell their products directly and receive fair prices. "The Prime Minister is requested to protect the small cottage industries of Kashi. The most urgent need is the construction of a textile park to provide a market for the millions of poor weavers living across Purvanchal, so that the saree-weaving community can find sustainable livelihood opportunities," the MP wrote.
