Chandani to aim for big as UP take on Delhi in pre-quarterfinals
LUCKNOW, Nov. 6 -- Young leg spinner Chandani Sharma has set her sight on the next Women's Premier League as she finds the event a gateway to make it to the Indian side for international matches.
For this, with nine wickets in five matches so far at an economy of 3.65, Lucknow's Sharma would be targeting to pocket more wickets for herself when defending champions Uttar Pradesh take on spirited Delhi in the pre-quarterfinal match of Women's Under-19 T20 Trophy at Kolkata on Thursday.
Sharma won't be the only bowler to put pressure on the rivals as she will also be supported by Bharti Singh (7wkts), Janvi Baliyan (7 wkts) and Supreya Arela (4 wkts), who too have been in a good from and the team have the confidence to make use of the conditions at the Aditya Academy Ground on Thursday. "We would like to continue our winning streak even in the knockout. We have a balanced side and will try to give our best in the match," a team official said on the eve of the match on Wednesday.
Before losing to table topper Baroda (18 points) by five wickets in their second last league match of the Elite Group B, Uttar Pradesh notched up consecutive wins. First they defeated Madhya Pradesh by 47 runs, then Odisha by nine wickets and Saurashtra by 91 runs and in all the matches bowlers, especially spinners like Chandani Sharma played a crucial role. Their match against Jharkhand was abandoned.
"Undoubtedly, we have a few gaps to fill in the knockout matches. So far, we have learnt many things from our previous matches and will try to rectify our mistakes, if any,' said the official, adding, "A change is unlikely in the side, but will take a final call only on Thursday after seeing the wicket again."
In 2024 season, UP had defeated Delhi in quarterfinals....
