Dehradun, Aug. 5 -- The state health department has suspended Dr Mohammad Shah Hasan, deputy chief medical officer (CMO) in Chamoli district, with immediate effect after he allegedly hit two bike riders while driving under the influence of alcohol, officials aware of the matter said on Sunday.
The incident, which occurred in the Tilani area of Rudraprayag district on Saturday, left the two riders seriously injured, according to statement issued by the state government.
Officials said the suspension follows direct instructions from CM Pushkar Singh Dhami, who emphasised strict adherence to discipline and service ethics in public service.
According to the statement, the incident compromised the dignity of public health services and damaged public trust. Dr Hasan, a senior officer, was found to be driving a government Scorpio vehicle when he struck the bikers.
The director general of Medical Health and Family Welfare received a detailed report on August 3, which stated that Dr Hasan had consumed alcohol before the incident. During the suspension period, Dr Hasan has been directed to report to the Rudraprayag district headquarters....
