Chain-snatching accused held after police encounter
PRAYAGRAJ, Aug. 19 -- Two wanted criminals were arrested following an encounter near Hashimpur bridge under the George Town police station area in Prayagraj late Sunday night. Both sustained pellet injuries to their legs and were admitted to the hospital, said police on Monday.
Police identified the two as Azam Khan and Mansoor Ahmed alias Monu, residents of Malavan Bujurg locality in Jhunsi. They were allegedly involved in a recent chain-snatching incident for which an FIR was registered at Colonelganj police station. Police recovered a gold chain, two pistols, two live cartridges and a bike from their possession.
ADCP Abhishek Kumar said that a police team was conducting routine checks on Sunday night when two youths on a motorcycle were spotted near Hashimpur bridge. On being signaled to stop, they tried to flee.
The police, along with the SOG teams of Colonelganj and George Town police stations, chased them, during which the youths opened fire. Police retaliated, and both suspects were shot in leg before being apprehended.
Police said that Mansoor Ahmed has 10 criminal cases while Azam Khan is named in three cases. htc...
