LUCKNOW, May 30 -- Lucknowites will soon get a new space for leisure and refreshment, as the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) prepares to open a multi-utility public facility in the CG City area. Spread across nearly three acres, the new development will feature a food court, a dedicated kids' zone, parking for 100 vehicles, public seating, and aesthetic lighting. According to officials, the project is being built on a previously unused strip of land adjacent to the CG City foot overbridge. "This patch was left after bridge construction and was lying unused. We saw the opportunity to convert it into a space that serves both recreational and practical needs," a senior LDA official said on Thursday. The food court will feature seven compact shop units, each measuring 4x2 metres. These stalls will be leased out to vendors through a bidding process. Successful bidders will be responsible for constructing their own shops, with the LDA charging them a fixed annual fee. "We are preparing to float the request for proposal (RFP) within a few days to invite interested parties," an official familiar with the project said. According to Ajeet Kumar, executive engineer and in-charge of the project, most of the construction is complete and only minor finishing touches remain. The LDA aims to inaugurate the space within a month. "There is no such facility available here right now. This initiative will provide a much-needed place for workers to take breaks and grab meals without having to travel far," an official involved in the planning. These outlets will cater to food-related businesses and are expected to serve professionals working in nearby establishments, where options for affordable food remain limited, according to LDA. "Alongside the food stalls, a separate children's play area will be established, a facility currently missing in the vicinity. Additionally, parking space will be created to accommodate up to 100 vehicles, including two-wheelers and four-wheelers," officials informed. The site will also include public seating arrangements and decorative lighting, enhancing the location's appeal as a relaxing urban spot. By leasing out vending spaces, the authority anticipates a steady income stream. "LDA will not only serve the public but also generate consistent revenue, which can be reinvested into more public infrastructure," Kumar said....
