New Delhi, July 29 -- The Centre on Monday notified the appointment of 19 judges and additional judges in three high courts in a big boost to filling up judicial vacancies in high courts, even as a fresh batch of 18 recommendations for high court judges were forwarded by the Supreme Court Collegium later in the day . Union law minister in a tweet published on Monday confirmed that the President has appointed 12 additional judges for high courts of Telangana (4), Madhya Pradesh (4) and Gauhati (4) and seven permanent judges for Madhya Pradesh high court. The recommendations in this regard were sent by the Collegium headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) Bhushan R Gavai along with justices Surya Kant and Vikram Nath early this month, with few exceptions.. The appointment of 11 judges in Madhya Pradesh high court will boost the judicial workforce significantly as the high court has a working strength of 33 judges as against the sanctioned strength of 53. Next month, two more judges are set to retire. Among the names notified by Centre, there are six judicial officers of which four are appointed as additional judges. The remaining five have been elevated from the bar. The list for Gauhati high court also has an equal mix of two advocates and two judicial officers while in Telangana high court, the four names cleared by Centre have been elevated from the bar. Later in the day, the Supreme Court collegium of CJI and two senior most judges met and sent another batch of names to fill the vacancy gap in high courts which presently stands at around 371 out of the total sanctioned strength of 1122 high court judges. The recommendations of the Collegium have been made to fill vacancies in high courts of Calcutta (9 names), Andhra Pradesh (4), Bombay high court (3) followed by one name each for Delhi and Chhattisgarh high courts....
