Amritsar, Sept. 15 -- The Union government has denied Sikh jatha (pilgrims) the permission to visit shrines in Pakistan in November on the occasion of Guru Nanak's birth anniversary, citing security reasons, a letter issued by the ministry of home affairs (MHA) said. In July, organisations such as the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) had initiated the process of sending applications to the Pakistan High Commission and other departments concerned to obtain visas for the 10-day-long pilgrimage. However, the MHA expressed security concerns in sending pilgrims to Pakistan. The development comes months after a military conflict erupted between the two countries when India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7 to target terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and PoK in retaliation for the Pahalgam terror attack.
