Centre confirms resignation of Prasar Bharati chairman
New Delhi, Dec. 4 -- The ministry of information and broadcasting (I&B) has accepted the resignation of Navneet Kumar Sehgal as chairman of Prasar Bharati, the country's public broadcaster, according to an official letter dated December 3, 2025. Sehgal had taken over the role about 20 months ago, on March 16, 2024.
In the letter, seen by HT, the ministry stated that it was referring to Sehgal's notice dated December 2, 2025, in which he submitted his resignation. A senior official at the Prasar Bharati too confirmed to HT that Sehgal's letter of resignation was received on December 2, and the government had accepted it.
The communication further said that as per Section 7(6) of the Prasar Bharati (Broadcasting Corporation of India) Act, 1990, the government has accepted his resignation. The ministry informed him that he was "hereby relieved from the services of Prasar Bharati with immediate effect."
Sehgal is a retired Indian Administrative Service officer, 1988 batch, from the Uttar Pradesh cadre.
He has more than 35 years of experience in government, having led departments and worked on governance and policy initiatives at both the central and Uttar Pradesh state levels. He retired from civil service in July 2023 as additional chief secretary to the Government of Uttar Pradesh.
